It's not just vegetable gardens under fire...it's anything that doesn't support the lawn care or horticultural trades. Nine years ago the City of Toronto cut down my 200+ species native plant garden, despite having already lost cases where they attempted to force residents to revert similar gardens to alien, invasive, and allergenic turf grass. After 8 very long, expensive and tiring years, the City settled and issued a written apology for their actions -- then attempted to lay charges against the very same space a few months later!
Toronto publishes report after report promoting the integration of native species into gardens for the myriad benefits such plantings provide yet expends thousands of hours annually sending its burgeoning team of "garden police" to harass those residents who implement measures to battle Climate Change. If its not turf grass or petunias...it can't possibly be legal?
